I took off to Death…

Photo Caption: I took off to Death Valley last Friday night on a whim to shoot with Eric ParĂ© & Kim Henry… We headed out to a different part of Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes in the hope there wouldn’t be people there and it wouldn’t be tracked out.. You have to be pretty strategic when shooting on the dunes because you don’t want to track them up. Eric had picked out his composition for the evening, and this was the one I picked out for mine. I didn’t attempt to shoot Milky Way on this night; the half moon was sitting right in it and I didn’t want the editing effort I knew would come from that shot. So I set up my camera and shot a foreground while it was still somewhat light out. Then I left my camera running for the next few hours as I learned and worked with Eric and Kim.. I really wasn’t sure what I was going to get out of my star trails as the night ended up being pretty cloudy, but amazingly enough I was able to get this image. —
Oh one thing about facing east towards Vegas, well, it’s a flight path.. I removed probably 25-30 airplanes out of this image of over 400 shots.. I stacked 5 images for the foreground to noise reduce in Starry Landscape Stacker. The color of the stars I only saturated- I didn’t change them at all..
