Photo Caption: Deciding on a place to shoot the Milky Way in a locale that you don’t see a ton of Milky Way shots from was no easy feat.. trying to fit sightseeing Puerto Rico into those plans made me super indecisive as well.

At the end of the day, I decided shooting Milky Way in this exotic location was more important than kayaking a bio luminescent bay, so in spite of being at the Ferry in Fajardo, I made the last minute decision to head to the SW tip of Puerto Rico in search of a sea arch I had seen daytime shots of and only 2 night shots of.

It took a few hours to get across the island due to traffic, roads, and many stops along the way.. we got there barely in time for sunset and to scout out my compositions for the night.. this comp was my cherry on top though, set to get as good of a alignment as possible after 1am..

We grabbed dinner and then returned and started shooting just at dark.. I shot a total of 5 comps in other places before the clouds started rolling in and covered the Milky Way right at 1am.. Freaking out, I rushed over to the arch and I set up my camera in spite of it, and ran a timelapse in the hopes that I would get a break in the clouds.. and I did!!! I got maybe 25 frames with few clouds in the shot and stacked 20 frames for this image.. I didn’t light the foreground at all; the ambient light from nearby cities or the clouds lit by the rising moon did…
